What Is an Outdoor Living Space?
An outdoor living space is a built area outside the house used like a room. It usually joins a floor, some shade and a place to cook, eat or sit by a fire. UDA Services builds the floors, the roofs and the features that make up these spaces. The floor is a deck, a paver patio or a concrete patio. The shade is a covered porch, a pavilion, a patio cover or a pergola. We plan them the way a design-build contractor plans any part of a home.

Covered porches. Covered porches add a roof over the front or back door.
Patio covers. Patio covers put a solid roof over a patio or a grill area.
Backyard pavilions. Pavilions are freestanding roofs on posts, open on all sides.
Custom pergola design. Pergolas are open beams that give light shade over a patio or deck.
Outdoor kitchen design. Outdoor kitchens set a grill and counters in a stone island on the patio.
Fire pit patios. Fire pits are built into a paver patio, often ringed by a seat wall.
How Do You Plan an Outdoor Living Space as One Project?
Planning as one project means placing every feature on one drawing before any is built. We draw the plan in-house for decks and patios and fit the other features to it. Five planning steps shape that drawing.
- Start at the back door, where the space joins the kitchen or family room.
- Mark the zones for cooking, eating, sitting and the fire.
- Choose where shade is needed and which roof or pergola gives it.
- Read the slope, since a sloped yard may need a retaining wall or a raised deck.
- Leave room for paths, steps and drainage between the parts.

What Sets the Price of an Outdoor Living Space?
Size, shade, stonework and the slope of the yard set the price of an outdoor living space. One free written estimate after the site visit prices every part of it. Four factors move the total.
- The size of the floor sets how much decking or paving goes in.
- Shade from a solid roof or from open beams changes the build.

An outdoor living project typically takes one to two weeks for a deck or a paver patio on its own. An outdoor living project takes as long as its largest part, plus the parts added to it. A retaining wall takes one to two weeks as well. Combining parts adds time. Our crews keep working through the winter, so a spring project can be planned in the cold months.

Highest quality craftsmanship - Our relationship with UDA started with the purchase of a large shed. They handled the full project including the custom build, 6' of fill, rock leveling, delivery, and landing. Can an Outdoor Living Space Be Built on a Slope?
