Concrete Patio Installation in Central PA

UDA Services pours concrete patios for homes across Central PA. We set our patios on a compacted gravel base inside wood forms before the pour. Patios can join steps, a seat wall or the space under a deck.

This concrete patio sits beside a three-car garage and its driveway.

What Is a Concrete Patio?

A concrete patio is a slab poured at ground level as an outdoor floor. It is cast in one piece, so it has no joints between units like a paver patio. UDA Services pours concrete patios behind homes, under decks and beside pools. Control joints are cut into the slab so shrinkage cracks follow straight lines. A smooth or brushed finish is chosen for grip and looks. A patio is often the first piece of a hardscape design and build plan for the yard.

How Does UDA Services Pour a Concrete Patio?

Pouring a patio means building a firm base, holding the concrete in forms and finishing the surface before it sets. Our crews work through five steps, as our job photos show.

  1. Grade the ground with a slight slope away from the house.
  2. Lay and compact a gravel base inside wood forms.
  3. Pour and screed the concrete level with the forms.
  4. Finish the surface and cut the control joints.
  5. Strip the forms once the slab has set.

Steps and landings at a door can be poured with the patio. We seal new patios after the concrete has cured. In freezing weather, we cover fresh concrete with blankets.

Which Concrete Patio Ideas Work in a Central PA Yard?

Concrete patio ideas come down to shape, what surrounds the slab and what shelters it. These five come from patios our crews have poured. Each one changes how the patio is used.

  • A curved block seat wall wraps one side of the patio for seating.
  • A curved edge softens a square yard.
  • A new slab meets an older paver patio along one side.
  • A patio under a raised deck makes a shaded lower level.
  • A roof over the patio turns it into a covered patio.

Is Concrete or Pavers Better for a Patio?

Concrete is better on cost and pavers on pattern and repair, since a paver section is lifted and relaid. Concrete and pavers both make a lasting patio, and they differ in cost, looks and repair. A concrete slab can crack across, so the control joints matter. Pavers flex with the ground, and a sunken section can be lifted and relaid on a good base. See our full pavers vs concrete patio comparison for cost and lifespan.

What Sets the Price of a Concrete Patio?

A concrete patio is priced mostly by its area, its shape and the ground work under it. After a free visit to measure, we give the patio price in writing. Four factors move that price.

  • The square feet set the amount of concrete.
  • Curves and steps add forming work.
  • The grading and base change the ground work.
  • Seat walls or borders add to the build.

Sourced ranges are on our concrete patio cost page.

Jake and his team completed the concrete upgrade for our pool in 2020 and this spring completed a project renovating our deck and turning it into an enclosed porch/sunroom, with new concrete patio and steps to our pool. From start to finish, they were dependable and meticulous. Jake took our ideas and vision and made it a reality, offering suggestions along the way. Both projects were done in a timely manner. Highly recommended and we plan to use UDA Services again soon for our next project.

Working with UDA was a pleasure from the start. Phenomenal communication throughout the entire process. They are very clean on the work site and you can tell they truly care about their craftsmanship. Each crew member that was on site was super professional and polite. Jake delivered on everything that was proposed during the design of deck and retaining wall. I cannot wait to complete future projects with this same company. 10/10 would highly recommend.

What Else Do Homeowners Ask About Concrete Patios?

Homeowners also ask about resurfacing, rain, sealing and steps. Brief answers follow.

Does UDA Services Resurface Old Concrete Patios?

No, we do not offer resurfacing coatings for old patios. A worn or cracked patio can be broken out and poured new on a fresh base.

What Happens If It Rains on a New Concrete Patio?

Rain on concrete that has not set weakens the top surface and raises the chance of dusting. Fresh concrete is kept covered from rain until it sets. Our page on rain on fresh concrete explains the risk.

Should You Seal a New Concrete Patio?

Yes, you should seal a new concrete patio after it cures, since a clear coat slows stains and water. It is optional rather than required, and it goes on only after the concrete has cured. We seal the new patios we pour. See how long to let sealer dry before rain on our sealer page.

Can Steps Be Poured With a Concrete Patio?

Yes, steps and a landing can be poured with the patio to reach a door or a deck. Ours include landings at sliding doors and steps from patios to pools. See our concrete steps page for poured and precast steps.
